Applying to a Nursing Home

Applying to a Nursing Home

All provinces provide assistance with helping family members through the nursing home application process. In many provinces, you must apply for a nursing home though a provincial agency, such as Regional Health Authorities (RHA) or Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). These agencies are the nursing home ‘gatekeepers’ because all applications must go through them, and they control the waiting lists for the nursing homes. Typically, a case manager is assigned to the individual being considered for nursing home placement and the individual is assessed to determine the level of care needed. Because the nursing home application process varies among the provinces it is best to contact a representative in your area (select your province below).
